Nov 24th, 2024 – Marlena Velez, a social media influencer from Cape Coral, FL was arrested for theft from Target after police used her own posts to find her. Police tracked down the suspect after an anonymous caller helped them identify the suspect on Instagram and TikTok.

Nov 21st, 2024 – Former Congressman Matt Gaetz pulled his name from contention to be President-elect Trump’s Attorney General, amid a slew of sexual misconduct allegations including:

  • Allegations of having sex with a 17-year old minor, sexual assault allegations, sexual abuse allegations, sex trafficking allegations, and drug use allegations.

Nov 13th, 2024 – Alan W. Filion, 18, of Lancaster, California, made more than 375 swatting and threat calls from August 2022 to January 2024 and plead guilty to four counts of making interstate threats to injure the person of another. Filion targeted religious institutions, schools, government officials, and other innocent victims with hundreds of false threats of imminent mass shootings, bombings and other violent crimes. Calls included ones in which he claimed to have planted bombs in targeted locations or threatened to detonate bombs and/or conduct mass shootings at those locations. He faces up to five years in prison on each count. A sentencing date has not yet been set.

Nov 12th, 2024 – Former Massachusetts Air National Guard member Jack Teixeira was sentenced Tuesday to 15 years for stealing classified information from the Defense Department and sharing it online. Teixeira, who previously held a top-secret security clearance, posted hundreds of documents on Discord, a social media platform used mostly by online gamers. He began sharing the documents in 2022. including information on troop movements and providing equipment to Ukraine, in part to impress peers on the platform. In Mar 2024, Teixeira pleaded guilty to six counts of willful retention and transmission of national defense information under the Espionage Act.
